A 3D scan recovers the geometry of the original when there is neither a drawing nor a CAD file. The point cloud becomes a digital model of the part, which is the basis for the WAAM path and for machining. Reverse engineering starts from the physical part, not from documentation.

A repaired — or printed and finished — part is ready for service. The metal goes back into the machine instead of to scrap or to a foundry at the other end of Europe. That is the circular economy in practice.
